Trust Helps Turn Lives

Up to 200 young people could be supported through a new Brisbane Youth Service pilot program, made possible through the donation of $200,000 from the Lord Mayor’s Community Trust.
Chair of the Trust, Lady Mayoress Lisa Newman, today made a cheque presentation to Brisbane Youth Service for their new ‘Turn a Life’ program, together with corporate donor Xstrata Coal.
Mrs Newman said the program was designed to provide key goods and services to help people in need get back on track.
“There are so many things in life we take for granted – things we need to maintain a healthy, comfortable life – but are not available to homeless people and others in need,” she said.
“From the more specialist services such as medical, dental and paediatric health services, optical services, to the more mundane cleaning supplies, kitchenware and stationery for kids.
“This is what this exciting new pilot is about – equipping people to lead their lives.”
The Lady Mayoress said the Trust supported charities, such as Brisbane Youth Service, that provided sustainable solutions to people in need.
She said the Trust relied on generous corporate sponsors such as XStrata Coal which had donated the $200,000 to the LMCT over two years, for the Turn a Life program.
The cheque presentation was made today at Brisbane Youth Service.
Brisbane Youth Service was represented by Executive Manager Programs Angela Barnes, and Xstrata Coal by Executive General Manager Reinhold Schmidt.
