Big City BBQ Cook up Today
16 October, 2009
Brisbane residents are being encouraged to come down to Riparian Plaza today and support Brisbane’s biggest annual charity barbeque.
Last year over 4000 office workers and local residents grabbed a barbie lunch at the Big City BBQ and kicked back to enjoy the entertainment.
This year’s the event has been able to snag one of Australia’s favourite pop idols Guy Sebastian, who will headline the main stage in the Riparian Plaza forecourt.
Lady Mayoress Lisa Newman said this year’s event would be even bigger with Guy sure to pull in huge lunchtime crowds.
“We’re so pleased Guy has agreed to attend this event, it will be a real boost to our efforts to raise money for Brisbane’s needy at a time when the global financial situation has made it more difficult,” the Lady Mayoress said.
Guy is in town to promote pre-sales of his latest album ahead of its official launch.
Now in its fourth year, Big City BBQ will have two stages of live entertainment, including 10Divas, Stone Parade, Red Hot Rhythm and NOVA 106.9FM MC’s Michelle and Smallzy.
They’ll be joined by a current Idol, Master Chef Australia contestant 'Geni', sporting personalities, fashion designer and Emporium boutique owner Julie Tengdahl.
A series of barbie "cook offs" will pit celebrity against celebrity.
“I’d like to thank Wilson HTM Investment Group, Brisbane City Council and Riparian Plaza, and all the other companies rolling up their sleeves to make this an unmissable event,” the Lady Mayoress said.
Proceeds will go toward DRUG ARM Australasia and The Lord Mayor’s Community Trust, which focuses on prevention and support services for people who are homeless, suffering mental illness, disability, or those with a history of substance abuse or history of trauma.
Purchase an $8 early-bird lunch voucher for a barbecue lunch pack and entry into the draw to win over $10,000 in prizes - including two V Australia international premium economy return flights from Brisbane to Phuket.
